The stickers corresponding to each medicine appear after the unique code of each drug is scanned during pricing. Pharmacists choose according to their experience which sticker will stick after they ask the patient if they agree on the use of the labels. In this way, patient adherence increases in their treatment.

By using the Piktocare stickers, each patient can learn how proper use of medications affects the healing process.

During the workshop, each patient can learn how the proper reception of medicines affects the therapy process. The workshop also provides knowledge about how the irregular use of drugs affects the reduction of their therapeutic properties.

Each sticker, before being used for general use in pharmacies, is validated. Validation is a process aimed at confirming the quality of a product as required by checking whether the concept of a pictogram has been clearly imprinted, confirming that the use of a pictogram will ensure the achievement of the defined goal. The validation test is carried out between a randomly selected group of people. As a result of the validation process, we can be sure that the pictogram is well designed and its meaning will not be misinterpreted by the patient.
Pictograms must meet certain criteria, standards. The scientific partnership that designed the pictograms has scientific knowledge in the field of pharmacy, pharmacotherapy and drug safety. Validation is the first step in the research that confirms the effectiveness of the stickers, stating the correctness of the design of the pictograms. In the second step, it is examined whether the use of pictograms improves the patient’s adherence to the rules of defined drug therapy.

Yes, as there is no legal provision in pharmaceutical law forbidding pharmacists to place Piktocare on packs of medicines after they are given to patients. Label stickers must stick to the pharmacy packaging in a pharmacy in accordance with acceptable international standards after obtaining the patient’s consent to purchase the medicine to do so and fall within the field of pharmacy provided by the pharmacist in the after-sales pharmacy of the drug to the patient. It is important that stickers are placed on the packaging of medicines in a way that will not violate the intellectual property rights of drug manufacturers:

Piktocare stickers must be stuck on the packages of medicines in free space, do not cover the trade name of the medicinal product, the name of the active substance, the barcode, the expiry date or the batch number, and – if possible – of the medicine.

At the beginning of 2011 and 2013, the first study focused on the impact of the labeling of pharmaceutical products with the Piktocare labels on the increase in Radzymin pharmacies’ sales. The survey was funded by EU funds under the European Social Fund.

In the pharmacies examined, pharmacists extended the existing standard of patient care with an additional service – the labeling of pharmaceutical formulations with Piktocare labels. During the 6 months of study, a total of 8,900 stickers were applied.

In turn, in 2016 and 2017 we conducted further research on a much larger scale (125 pharmacies, over 500 patients) on the validation and usability of the service.

Validation is the first stage of the research that confirms the effectiveness of the pictograms, stating the correctness of the design of the pictograms. Each validated pictogram, before being used for general use in pharmacies, is validated. Validation is a process aimed at confirming the quality of the product, according to its requirements, its importance, its use. The validation test is carried out between a randomly selected group of people. As a result of the validation process, we can be sure that the pictogram is designed correctly and its meaning will not be misinterpreted by the patient.

In the second step, it is examined whether the use of pictograms improves adherence to the rules of defined pharmacotherapy.

In the pictogram validation study and allowing the use of the image, we estimate three parameters: the meaning, transparency and results of the reminder test.

– Increasing the level of patient satisfaction
– Improving the provision of pharmaceutical care to the patient
– Increasing patient loyalty in the pharmacy
– Increase the level of adherence of patients to treatment
– Increasing the attractiveness of pharmacies

PIKTOCARE are stickers with simple pictograms placed on the medicine package. Thanks to these, the patient gets a constant reminder of the correct taking of the medicinal product, which contributes to the correct course of treatment.

  • STAGE 2. Take a medicinal product prescribed by a doctor from a shelf or drawer.
  • STAGE 3. Check the dose and expiration date of the drug.
  • STAGE 4. Proceed to the invoicing process and scan the unique medicine code. The suggested pictograms will be displayed on your screen..
  • STAGE 5. Stick the labels to the medicine in an area that does not cover the expiry date or the name of the medicine.

At the time the unique drug code is scanned, the suggested labels appear on your screen. The choice must be based on your knowledge and experience, the instructions you receive by purchasing the service, and the profile of each patient.

The placement of a sticker on the product depends to a large extent on the type of drug packaging. When attaching PIKTOCARE to the drug package, please label:
– it does not cover important information such as: name of drug, dose, expiry date, batch number and – if possible – the brand name of the drug manufacturer.
– it is easy to read the medicine.
– sticks straight and be aesthetically suited to other packaging items
– is stuck in such a way that it will not accidentally become detached or damaged, for example when opening the package. Where appropriate, place the label on the immediate packaging of the medicine (eg a bottle of eye drops). Patients very often remove and fly the carton immediately after buying the medicine.
